Combo Mat 825gsm (600BX ±45° + 225CSM) – Per Metre | Marine Fibreglass Reinforcement
825gsm combo mat ±45 | Hull Skins | Torsional Reinforcement | Transom Repair | Keel & Rudder Repair | Marine Panel Fabrication
The 825gsm combo mat ±45 combines a 600gsm double bias e-glass layer with a 225gsm CSM backing in a single fabric — delivering torsional reinforcement and interlaminar bonding in one pass. Because fibres run at +45° and -45°, it handles shear and diagonal loads that 0°/90° fabrics cannot, while the CSM backing bonds each ply simultaneously — cutting layup time on every job.
Supplied per metre with no minimum order.
Why Use a ±45° Combo Mat?
Traditional laminate schedules alternate double bias fabric with CSM interleaving layers to promote bonding between plies. This 825gsm combo mat ±45° does both jobs at once. As a result, fabricators achieve a well-bonded, torsionally strong laminate faster — with fewer individual plies to cut, position, and wet out. For production boatbuilders and busy marine repair workshops, this translates directly to time and cost savings on every job.
Marine Applications
Ideal for hull skins, rudders, keels, and torsionally loaded marine structures where shear and diagonal load resistance are critical. Because fibres run at ±45°, it also conforms readily to compound curves — making it well suited to curved hull sections, complex marine panel fabrication, and any structural application where a traditional alternating double bias and CSM schedule would otherwise apply.
Key Properties
- Combines 600gsm ±45° double bias e-glass and 225gsm CSM in a single fabric — two jobs in one pass
- ±45° fibre orientation delivers superior torsional stiffness and shear strength
- CSM backing promotes strong interlaminar bonding between structural plies
- Cuts layup time and reduces ply count without compromising laminate integrity
- Conforms readily to compound curves due to natural bias stretch
- Compatible with epoxy, polyester, vinyl ester, and urethane-acrylate resin systems
- Suitable for hand layup, vacuum bagging, and resin infusion
Processing Note
Lay the CSM side down against the previous ply. Work resin through from the double bias face and consolidate thoroughly with a ribbed roller. Because the CSM backing absorbs resin readily, ensure adequate resin volume for full wet-out through both layers. Take care when handling to avoid distorting the ±45° fibre orientation before wet-out.

FAQs
What is the difference between the 0°/90° and ±45° combo mat? The 0°/90° version resists longitudinal and transverse loads. The ±45° version resists shear and torsional loads. For complete structural coverage, combine both orientations in your laminate schedule.
Which side goes down when laminating? Lay the CSM side against the previous ply. The CSM backing bonds to the underlying layer while the double bias face provides torsional reinforcement for the next ply above.
Can I use this for a hull skin laminate? Yes — it is particularly well suited to hull skins where torsional and shear loads are the primary concern. Because it conforms readily to compound curves, it also handles the complex shapes typical of hull panel fabrication.
