2×2 Twill 3K Prepreg Carbon Fibre 200 gsm – G2 System
3K Twill Prepreg Carbon Fibre – 200 gsm (G2 Epoxy System)
The 2×2 Twill 3K Prepreg Carbon Fibre 200 gsm (G2) is a high-quality, general-purpose prepreg carbon fabric designed for consistent structural performance and excellent surface finish. It features a popular 2×2 twill weave carbon fabric pre-impregnated with a controlled epoxy resin system, allowing users to produce repeatable, high-quality composite parts without managing resin ratios manually.
With a near-ideal resin content of approximately 45–50%, this prepreg delivers reliable fibre wet-out, strong mechanical properties, and uniform laminate quality across a wide range of applications.
Fabric Construction & Performance
This prepreg uses a 3K carbon fibre tow (3,000 filaments per fibre) and matches the look and weight of traditional 200 gsm twill woven carbon fabrics. Compared with plain weave, the 2×2 twill structure offers improved drape and conformability, making it easier to lay into curves, corners, and complex moulds. At the same time, it provides a small improvement in strength and laminate smoothness.
Because the resin content is tightly controlled, builders can achieve consistent fibre volume fractions and predictable results from part to part.
G2 Prepreg Epoxy System
The G2 prepreg system is a versatile, general-purpose epoxy designed for structural and cosmetic composite components. It suits applications that demand both strength and Class-A surface finish, including motorsport, automotive, marine, aerospace, and high-end recreational products.
The G2 system cures efficiently between 100 °C and 120 °C, offering good resin flow and clean consolidation. It also works seamlessly with adhesive films, making it suitable for complex sandwich constructions such as honeycomb cores and high-density foam cores.
Curing Options
This prepreg carbon fibre can be cured using several standard composite processes:
-
Oven Cure
Pressure applied equals atmospheric pressure -
Autoclave Cure
Pressure applied equals the pressure generated by the autoclave -
Hot Press Cure
Pressure applied equals the pressure generated by the press
Always follow the recommended cure cycle for your chosen process to achieve optimal mechanical and cosmetic results.
Storage & Handling
Prepreg carbon fibre should be stored in a refrigerated, low-moisture environment, preferably below 0 °C, and sealed in a polyethylene bag. Before use, allow the material to thaw to room temperature before opening the bag to prevent moisture condensation on the fabric.
The G2 prepreg system offers a usable out-life of up to one month when stored out of refrigeration under controlled conditions.
